Reserve Deputy Program
The Amador County Sheriff’s Office offers a Reserve Deputy Program for citizens in our community who wish to volunteer their time to enhance our department while helping to improve the quality of life in Amador County through Service, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence. Because Reserve Deputies are volunteers, they are an invaluable asset to our department, as they supplement full-time employees in a variety of duties while saving taxpayers money.
The Reserve Deputy Program can be beneficial for a vast range of people in our community. It provides a great opportunity for those interested in a full-time career in law enforcement to gain valuable, first-hand experience, as well as for those individuals who already have a full-time career, but wish to volunteer in the community and enhance public safety. The program also allows retired law enforcement officers to continue working in the field without the time constraints of a full-time position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must be a United States citizen
- Have a valid California Driver’s License
- No felony convictions
- No misdemeanor restrictions prohibiting ownership or possession of a firearm
- High School diploma and/or G.E.D. equivalent
- Level l reserve status (Completion of Reserve Modules l, ll, and lll or P.O.S.T. Basic Regular Course)
APPLICATION PROCESS
Each Reserve Deputy candidate must pass a written test, an oral interview, a background investigation, a physical examination and a psychological evaluation.
RESERVE DEPUTY BENEFITS
Reserve Deputies are non-paid volunteers and as such receive no financial compensation. However, upon appointment, Reserve Deputies will be provided a department uniform, protective ballistic vest, safety gear and other related equipment.

RESERVE DEPUTY DUTIES
Reserve Deputies may assist regular deputies in the enforcement of laws and in maintaining peace and order within the community. Reserve Deputies may be assigned to other areas within the Department, as needed.
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
Reserve Deputies must serve a minimum of 16 hours of department recognized service per month as well as successfully complete a Field Training program. Reserve Deputies must also continually qualify in the use of firearms and maintain training compliance in areas such as defensive tactics, C.P.R. and First Aid. Reserve Deputies may also be required to attend training meetings.

What is a Reserve Deputy Sheriff?
A Reserve deputy is a volunteer who works a minimum of 120 hours per year. The Reserve Deputies are required to attend training and may supplement the patrol or investigations bureaus. Reserve Deputies must continually qualify in the use of firearms, and train in the areas of less lethal uses of force, CPR, and first aid. Each Reserve Deputy is on standby for emergencies. These duties are in addition to their regular jobs and sometimes at a sacrifice to their families.
How do I become a Reserve Deputy Sheriff?
To qualify to be a Reserve Deputy, each candidate must pass a written test, an oral interview, a background investigation, a physical examination, and a psychological evaluation. They must attend a P.O.S.T. certified academy and successfully complete field evaluation.
